I've had 14 new visitors from people searching for the riddle I posted a few days ago. Haha... I guess even though it's old, it's still pretty popular.

Hello

Where did my sweet little girl go and WHO is this imposter living with me now?!? My goodness she has been michevious the past few days. If the terrible twos are worse than this I'll never survive!! Val has been throwing tantrums every chance she gets. If anything isn't her way, she throws a FIT. She lays on the floor yelling and wriggling about. It would be quite funny if it weren't MY child. It's kind of embarrasing when it happens in public. I'm trying to just ignore it so hopefully it will go away. I try not to give in because I don't want her to learn that's how to get her way. She's so clingy and wants to be held all the time. Most kids run away from their parents every chance they get once they start walking. Not Val, she wants to be glued to me at all times. If I refuse to pick her up or put her down too soon -- fit. If I sit down while holding her -- fit. If a toy isn't right -- fit. If we don't go outside -- fit. If we DO go outside -- fit. If she's not throwing a fit she's bouncing off the walls!! It's really tiring. I'm not sure what to make of it. My sweet little girl is still there somewhere! Just tonight she kept coming up to me and laying her head against me saying "awwww" while patting me. It's the cutest!! When she does sweet things like that it's so easy to forget the other stuff. haha.

Valerie was much better today. She was in a much better mood and played a ton. She's slowly phasing into one early nap. She's been napping from about 12:30-1:30 or 2:00. And from then on she's up until 8 or 9:00!! I was so used to her sleeping mid afternoons.

Oh and there's more dog drama. One of our neighbors volunteerd to help and give Kita some attention from time to time. She was supposed to bring her to visit sometimes in the morning or afternoon. She kept her in her workshop 24/7 for almost a week! That's fine and all. But she started with the "you need to get this medicine for her, she has this wrong, do this, do that" lectures. I can deal with that. But today took the cake. Kita has had a few accidents in her shop. What do you expect though? She's an outside dog. The neighbor wants US (or Clint mainly) to go over there and let her out five or six times a day!!! Ummm there's no F in way. We had no time for Kita in our backyard. That's the whole problem with the dog. We surely don't have the time to walk to her house to let the dog out every hour and a half. She also started on why can't we let Kita inside sometimes. I just can't have a 120lb dog - a rottweiler - roaming around inside with Valerie. She doesn't get that our priorities are our daughter, our home, and our family. We never asked her to keepthe dog over there. So, Clint went tonight to let Kita out and just brought her back here.

again...

Poor Valerie is sick again. *sigh* Not really bad, but she has a head cold. She's all stuffy and snotty. And whiney. I guess that's the price we'll pay being in the playgroup. She'll catch whatever the other kids have... I know it's a part of life and everybody gets sick at some point. It's so hard seeing your baby sick though. She can't tell me what hurts and doesn't know how to blow her nose. She won't let me near her with the suction thing so she stays all snotty!! My poor little girl. If she gets worse we can take her to Urgent Care. Hopefully she'll get over it quickly because Thursday playgroup is at OUR house!!

a riddle... yes I know the answer!

A man and his son are driving in a car one day, when they are hit by a drunk driver. The man is killed instantly. The boy is knocked unconscious, but he is still alive. He is rushed to hospital, and will need immediate surgery. The doctor enters the emergency room, looks at the boy, and says..."I can't operate on this boy, he is my son." How is this possible?

Fun in the Sun

somebody got a little wet today....

Monday, May 22, 2006

A Valerie post!! Well, almost.

I let Valerie play in the sprinklers today. She LOVED it! For a kid who doesn't care for her pool, she enjoys playing the water. She kept following the streams of water as it went back and forth. She'd laugh and smile at me then do it all over again. It was too cute. She was a mess after though - soaking wet with so much grass stuck to her. I have no idea how but she even got grass under her clothes. LOL!

And FINALLY my child is one of the WALKING!!!!!! She still crawls a bit but is walking more than crawling now. I was beginning to worry. One of the 10 month old babies in our playgroup started walking last week. And here's poor Valerie, almost 17 months old, still mostly scooting around on the floor. She was able to walk, but just didn't want to. In the past few days she's started walking almost everywhere. It's so cute to see her toddling around. She'll come walking around the corner towards me with this BIG grin on her face. Soon she'll be running!!

Kita is at the neighbor's house. The lady took her home last night to sleep inside her workshop. She was supposed to bring her back this morning and come get her later. Well, she didn't. About 4:00 she came over and said Kita was too comfortable inside to put her out in the heat again. That's good! Keep her over there!! I gave her Kita's dish and some food. She's keeping her for now because it's too hot out and she wants to keep her clean. She asked me if I ever fooled with her or let her inside... I felt kinda bad saying no. That's mostly why Clint talked about giving her away -- we just don't have the time to pay her any attention. This lady has three dogs already, so I can understand why she can't handle another one. Kita would just be so much better off over there. Here she just sits in the yard and sees no one. There she's inside, is fed, played with, walked, talked to... We are both secretly hoping our neighbor just gets so attached and decides she just has to have her. I know that sounds awful, but really it's best for the dog.

Weekend

The weekend was good.

Friday night I went out to dinner with a few of the moms in our playgroup. It is SO nice to have some girls to do things like this with. Just having a couple of hours to myself to unwind and destress feels so good. All we did was eat and sit there for a couple ours chatting but that makes all the difference!! It's so hard being home with a baby all the time. I wish I would have known about this group last year when Clint was working offshore. I wouldn't have been all alone for weeks at at time!! I am definitely much happier now. It's great to have so many things to look forward to - playdates, mom's night out, trips, crafts, parties.... Yay!!

Saturday we did things around the house. We are fixing up the backyard. It's such a mess, mainly because of the dog (more on her in a minute). We have this HUGE yard and are unable to use it. Clint did a lot of cleaning and threw out all kinds of junk that was laying around. I got a new bistro set for the front, so the old one is on the back porch. I scrubbed the cement (scrubbed by hand!!) and got it as clean as I could. I want to touch up the paint. We bought new fancier ceiling fans to put out there. I want to make it nice so we can sit out there and enjoy our yard.

The neighbor in the back offered to help with Kita. Clint asked her about adopting her, but she said no, but she would help. Clint put up a gate between our yard and hers so the lady is going to take Kita to her home every so often. The poor dog gets no attention from us at all. So Friday Clint brought her to the neighbors to bathe her, and they found a huge bloody lump. Called the Vet and was told to bring her in, but she'd need surgery to remove it and would have to stay over night, blah blah blah. Clint brought her in and it's a tumor. They kept her over night. Saturday he went to get her, and the vet had done NOTHING. Their surgery schedule is booked through July. WTF??? What in the hell did they keep the dog overnight for then??? Clint has to call and schedule it still. It's not going to be as expensive as I thought -- only $2-300 this time. That's a lot, but the last few illnesses (from Clint's neglect) cost us $4,000.

Today, Sunday, Clint left for Houston. *sigh* He'll be away all week. I hate it when he's gone. At least I have things to keep me busy.

zoo

In spite of being stuck in traffic for over an hour, we had a nice day. Just as we were getting in to New Orleans, traffic slowed and started creeping along. Miles and miles of cars ahead and behind us. There was an accident involving two 18-wheelers somewhere on the interstate and traffic was being re-routed. We decided to just stop for lunch since it was later than we planned and easier / cheaper than eating zoo food. Burger King it was! Valerie had her very first taste of BK fries and chicken nuggets. I think she was more impressed by the people eating next to us than the food. LOL!

It was close to 1:00 by the time we reached the Audubon Zoo. It was a beautiful day and hardly anyone was there. Perfect! I hate fighting our way through crowds, especially having to push the big stroller around. People just stand there blocking the way and will not move... Anyway, Val had a good time I think. She wasn't too sure about the zoo overall. Mostly she sat there blank faced staring at things. She did point at a few animals she could see though. Many were sleeping or hiding in the shade. It took us about an hour and a half to walk the entire zoo. We sat and rested on a bench for a while. It was such a pretty day to sit under the trees and relax. We took Val out of her stroller and she had more fun playing in the dirt. She walked around quite a bit too. (Quick walking update: she IS walking, but not walking. She still prefers to crawl since it's faster, but she does walk quite a bit. We're doing everything we can to encourage her to stay on her feet!!) And then we called it a day. On our way home east bound traffic was still being held up from the wreck earlier in the day!!

I'm happy to report that Valerie is doing MUCH better!!! Today is the first day in a week that she ate solid food and didn't protest. Not much, but more than three bites. She still has a faint rash, but it'll be gone soon. Today she was almost her normal happy self, which made me a happy mommy. I don't like it when she's sick; especially since she can't tell us what hurts.

My Mother's Day was nice. We had planned to go to Morgan City and out to dinner with my parents. With Val the way she was, I thought it was best if we didn't. My parents came here instead and we barbecued. Clint gave me two dozen roses, a cherry jewelry chest, and a card. (The jewelry chest isn't what I wanted lol. I want a jewelry armoire, but he tried!!) Val was in a decent mood and didn't seem to be feeling too bad, so that was more than enough to make my day.

Last night was the choir concert I posted about a while back. The choir alumni were invited back to sing for a surprise tribute to our choir teacher. She retired years ago, and this was all planned by the current choir director. It turned out really nice! We walked on while the alma mater was being sung. Mrs. Hendrix was on stage as the guest director and had no idea what was going on when all these people started walking in. I enjoyed being part of it and seeing a few old friends. I think I am going to rejoin the community choir -The Tuneweavers- in Morgan City again. I was in it for a couple years, but quit when we moved over here. Practice is every Monday night, and as long as Clint is home to watch Val, I should be able to make most practices. They're off for the summer, so I have a while to think about it.

Not much else is going on. Clint is on vacation this week. We're doing things around the house. Tomorrow if Val is still feeling good, we're going to the New Orleans Zoo.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mommies out there!

the rash

My poor baby. :-(

Exhausted.

Well it's not measles. Val has a throat infection, strep maybe. Whatever it is caused the rash also. She's on antibiotics now so hopefully that will take care of it. Her fever is gone so that's good. We had the most difficult time at the doctor's office. I literally had to hold my baby down so she could be examined. She didn't even want to sit on the scale. I held her in my lap and had to pin her arms down with mine because she was throwing a horrible fit. The doctor wasn't our regular one and her first question was Val always like this at the office or with strangers. Not at all!! I know she's feeling really bad for her to be so upset. :-(

Last night was no better. This is day three of no sleep for me. She was up for hours crying and screaming. At 5am we got in the car to drive around thinking she'd fall asleep in her carseat. Nope. Clint and I tried everything. Everything. And nothing would comfort her. I started wondering if the rash itched, so I sprayed some anti-itch stuff on her. And she calmed down!! I guess it does. The doctor said to give her Benadryl if the rash seemed to bother her, so I gave her a dose of that. FINALLY about 6:45 she was falling alseep sitting up. I laid her down next to me. She slept for a whole 45 minutes - UGH. So far today she's taken a few cat naps, but no where near what she needs to. I know she has to be tired. She looks terrible with the rash all over, sleepy eyes, puffy red face from crying.... I don't know why she won't or can't sleep. She won't eat more than a bite or two of food either. *sigh* My poor baby girl. If she's not better by Monday we'll be back at the doctor.

We had another bad night. :-( Poor Valerie. She's not vomiting anymore, but I know she isn't well. She has a rash.... measles? It was just on her stomach. When she woke from her nap it had spread to her face and arms. I'm taking her to the doctor this afternoon. I was so shocked when I called. Her peditrician is no longer there. She's opening her own practice (?) in July. It seems she would have notified her patients!! I'll let y'all know what the doctor says...

Thanks to all who checked in on Valerie yesterday. I appreciate the good thoughts!! That was the sickest my baby has ever been. She's doing MUCH better today. She has a slight fever and is sleeping more than normal. She's in a happy mood though, so that's a good sign!! She also slept all night with only one wake up because she lost her pacifier. We're staying home today so she can rest.

What a rough night. Poor Valerie. About 12:30 she started crying. Clint checked on her, and she had thrown up all over. It was on her, her bunny, her sheet, her bed, the floor.... everywhere. So I stripped everything down and threw it in the washer. Cleaned Val. Scrubbed the carpet. Val was burning up, so we took her temp. 104!!! Gah! I gave her some Motrin and Clint was holding her in our bed. UP came the motrin and everything else, all over my pillow, the sheets... luckily none leaked through onto our brand new $1500 mattress!!! So we had to throw our bedding in the wash next and clean that up. I gave Val a bath with some lukewarm water to cool her off a bit since she didn't keep the medicine down. Gave her Tylenol. Told Clint to go back to bed since he had to work today. Val and I stayed up for bit while she played and watched TV. I held her and we tried to sleep on the couch but she wasn't comfortable. It had been a couple hours since she vomited last, so I thought maybe she was ok. I brought her to our room to sleep with us, and the second I walked in the doorway she got sick again all over the floor. Cleaned that up. We back to the living room.... I tried putting her back to bed but she wouldn't have any of that. Finally both of us laid down in the guest bedroom and she finally went to sleep next to me. She woke up about every 20 minutes or so.... so I got NO sleep!! We got up at 6:30, and she vomited again. *sigh* I gave Val another bath, made her bed, got her bunny out the dryer.... and now she's sleeping soundly in her crib.

I guess we all know what's coming next.... I'M going to catch it. I'll be sick for Mother's Day and the choir concert that I've been rehearsing for since March.... *sigh*

We had a nice day today. I got ready for the gym a little earlier than usual because we had other plans today. At 9:00 I was about to walk out the door when Val started making sleepy signs. I laid her down in her crib and she slept until 10:30!! So much for the gym!

We had a playgroup activity at someone's house to attend at 11:00. Valerie had SO much fun!!! She played constantly for three hours straight. She usually takes a while to warm up to a new place, but once she saw all the toys she wanted to check them out. I think it's going to be really good for her to be around other kids. She still isn't very social, but I think being around others will help her learn how to interact more. Plus it's good for ME also!! I have been feeling much better lately. Knowing that there are events coming up, things to do, places to go, etc. is helping my mood a lot. It's nice having other mom's to chit-chat with. I'm by myself SO much with no one to talk to, no one to visit, no one to call. We all know how "friendly" our neighbors are. Basically there is ONE person in the entire subdivision who talks to us!! The Playgroup is turning out to be a good thing all around....

My child will not sleep!!!! Last night was awful. I guess it is our fault because she took a 3 hour nap yesterday afternoon on top of a 1-1/2 hour nap in the morning!!! Val went to bed at 8:00 with no fuss. But she was wide awake at 1:30am. An 3:00 I put her back in her crib. At 5:00am she was up again!! Wide awake, playing, laughing.... We finally just gave up and just got up. She played, watched Brainy Baby, ate breakfast.... I gave her a warm bath and rubbed her down with some calming lotion. Finally she went back to sleep at 8:30am. I know she's got to be tired! I sure AM!!!! We're going to a birthday party this afternoon. I'm hoping that wears her out enough so she'll sleep tonight.

Stranded

Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment, then choir practice. Clint took the carseat out of my car because he was going to try to do the grocery shopping while I was gone. (he didn't.) This morning he overslept so he was in a mad rush to get dressed. His carpool buddy was sitting in the driveway waiting for him. Y'all see where this is going, right?? At one time, I had the vallet key to Clint's CRV on my key chain. Clint took it off with out me knowing -- until today. I get up this morning to find the CRV in my driveway - LOCKED. And the carseat sitting in the backseat. *joy* I'm stuck at home. Luckily I don't have anywhere that important to go. I planned to go to the gym and do the shopping. Poor Val has maybe one cup of milk left that has to last her ALL day.

I just can't believe he did that. Well, knowing my husband, I can. I even told him last night to be SURE and put the carseat back in my car. *sigh* Well, maybe I'll get around to cleaning and folding laundry today.

No sleep for Mommy!!

Valerie did not want to sleep last night. Or today. I don't know what was going on. More teeth?? She woke up about every hour last night screaming bloody murder. Once when I went to get her, she was lying face down just screaming into her mattress. Another she was standing up resting her head against the crib railing. Just yelling. Huh? I thought maybe she'd sleep a bit later this morning since she had been up all night. Nope. I thought maybe she'd nap a bit more. Nope! She took a short one hour nap when we got home from the gym. From then on she was WIRED!! I even took her outside to play in the pool. I know that when I spend time in the water under the sun it drains me. Not Val apparently. I know she was tired because she whined and fussed quite a bit. She would not go to sleep. That little girl stayed up until almost 9:30pm!! She was awake 10 hours straight today. I'm pretty sure that was a first. I hope she sleeps tonight because tomorrow is going to be a long day. I have a hair appointment in Morgan City at 11. An endocrinologist appointment at 3:30. Then I have to be back in M.C. at 7:00 for choir practice. I won't be home until well after 10:00 tomorrow night.
