Life changes

One word can change your life and the life of those around you.

One word.

Leukemia.

Life is so unfair at times. What can you do though, except play the hand dealt to you? I keep hearing myself saying I can't do this again... I can't... but I have to.

I know he's an "old man." And many do not see 78 at all. Everyone's life will come to an end. Some go quickly. Some go slowly. Some go young, some old. I don't know if it's better to know it's coming or to be hit with BAM your time is up. Like my Dad says - the dying part is easy. You're gone. It's just getting there that might be tough.

Many unknowns lie ahead for us. He may not have much time left on earth. But we will do our best to make it count.

I'm tired.  I wish I could take a nap or take a break but I can't.

I wish there was something I could do. But there isn't.

Just so overwhelmed.

You just never know what life is going to throw your way.  You never know what will happen to you.  One week you can be independent, riding your bicycle, driving, and walking fair distances.  The next you are so weak can barely stand and even turning in bed exhausts you so much you need to rest afterwards.

Today is day 5 in the hospital with my Dad.

There is no cure.  No fix.  All we can do is hope the medicines will help him be a part of the man he was before. With some quality of life.  And if it works the way the doctors hope, we'll have him around a little longer.

So far though, that isn't the case.  At all.

Truly wordless Wednesday.

Today was not a good day.

Not at all.

I don't know if I can do this again.

Prayers please.

Goings on....

School is in full swing now and we've been staying busy. Valerie is enjoying first grade and has made all A's on all of her tests so far. I Love, Love her teacher!! Val has a lot of homework but usually finishes it in no time. She enjoys learning and seems to catch on fast. I love how happy Valerie is to see me waiting on the porch every day when she gets off the bus.

Veronica has decided I pick her up from school "too early" and wants to stay longer. She is also asking about being the first one there. Coming from her, that is amazing. She comes home happy and talking non stop about her daily activities. She's also learning to write her name.

Clint has been going back and forth to Houston for work every few days. He gets to fly there for a day or two sometimes. Beats driving I guess and at least he is home in between.

We joined a real gym on the first day of school. I've been going just about every morning five days a week spending on average two hours a day there. Finally, I am doing something for me! We joined at the right time because they started a new round of classes with a brand new instructor. Zumba, pilates, kick boxing, and body sculpting. It's hard work but I'm doing them all, plus stuff on my own when time allows. I love the classes but I like the weight machines too. I'm trying not to focus on losing weight, just getting in better shape. In spite of all I am doing, the scale has not moved at all. Maybe I have lost inches though.... I'm not sure how long I can keep up with spending two hours a day there, but for now I'll take it.

A few girl friends and I have started a 'lunch club' while our kids are in school. We meet for lunch just about once a week and sometimes catch a movie before. It's so nice to have real adult time!! Three hour lunches with lots of laughs are awesome in every way.

My Dad has come to stay with us for a while. He is not doing well. He went to the doctor, so you know he has to be feeling pretty bad. Not really sure what is wrong or what to do for him.... Mostly he just feels extreme exhaustion and is having a hard time doing anything for himself. I do feel better now that he is here with us, but it's hard not to worry....

    Bzz Agent

Are you a member of BzzAgent? If not, you should be!! You could get a chance to receive and review things like this for free:

Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender - 200W

This would be so awesome to have in my kitchen! A Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender!! As much as I enjoy cooking and baking, this is one of the appliances I do not have. I had a cheap one when my kids were babies to mix formula, but it did not last long. I would be so thrilled if I had the chance to try one of these. Cuisinart anything is awesome!

    Thrift store finds

I was on my way home Friday when my good friend texted me that the thrift store had some nice dresses that day. So I headed straight there! Love the thrift store.... the only reason I don't go more often is because we don't need more stuff!

I lucked out and found the PERFECT blue and white checked dress for Veronica. She is asking to be Dorothy for Halloween, and I really didn't want to pay $30+ for a costume she will only wear an hour. This was a whole $1.25. Basket $0.35. I put one of Val's old school shirts under it. We did go buy the shoes... $13, but she can and will wear them on a regular basis. How is this for less than $15 Dorothy?

Unfortunately the dress is a bit tight... the price sticker had a size 6 written on it so I didn't check the tag. It's a 4. I already moved the buttons and if she grows any for $1.25 I will find a way to make it work!!

I also picked up this beauty for $5. It is absolutely gorgeous and in PERFECT condition. I have Halloween plans for it also... stay tuned!!

    Round one

We're just about done with the first month of school, and we're on round one of the fall/winter sickness. Last year I was in the doctor's office all winter with one or the other kid every two weeks. Veronica was sent home from school last Thursday because she woke up from nap time crying with a high fever. Friday morning she had a strep screen done at the doctor's office... negative. I do think that is what Roni had because several friends in her class had it. Two doses of antibiotics and she was on the mend.

Yesterday, Val's school nurse called. She vomited (in the hallway - poor baby!) and had a high fever. Off to the doctor we went. Headache, chills, fever, sore throat, vomiting.... flu symptoms. Really?? In September?? But, alas, the flu test came back negative. It is definitely something flu like though, with a secondary throat infection. She seems to be doing better this afternoon, so I'm hoping she can return to school tomorrow. With the school's crazy attendance policy, I'm leery about her missing more days than necessary.

Now, who wants to play a guessing game? Which kid will give Mommy a "present?"
