42 The Perfect Number

Four and two.  Forty-two.  The perfect number.  The answer to life, the universe, and everything.  Right??  I don't know about all of that.  I do know that 42 isn't as old as it used to sound.  Right??   As of today, I have been around the sun forty-two times.  This year, I hope to make a better me!  This past year has really slowed me down.  The pain before and after my surgery was too much some days and my usual activities came to a halt.  It seemed impossible, but finally I have more pain free days than not.  There are times when I almost forget that my leg hurts.  It isn't one hundred percent, but it's much more manageable.  I unfortunately put on a few pounds and let a lot of things go, so now it's time to take charge again.  We joined a new gym in June, and I've been going every day since school started.  I love it there!!  I've been doing Zumba and Body Combat to the best of my ability.  The brand new weight room is amazing.  The scale isn't budging, but I do feel better.  The only caveat is that no one talks to the new person.  I know a few members, and they have told me the same thing happened when they were new.  I've struck up a few long winded conversations with some of the ladies, only to have them flat out ignore me the next day.   Weird.  But.... I am not there to make new friends.  I am there to make a new me!!  Hashimoto's or vascular disease isn't going to beat me with out a fight.

This is me at 42.... on my way to a better me at 43!!

Five Minute Friday - Change

I've been seeing several blogger friends participate in Five Minute Friday, so It's past due for me to join in!  If you'd like to check it out, visit Heading Home to join in!

Change.

Oh boy, this is a tough one for me.  Change will happen... my girls will grow up as I become older.  Sometimes change can be for the better.  We are changing our dining room and it is looking amazing so far!  I just joined a new gym and I am loving the change of venue.  The new place has it all and I am feeling at home there.  Over all, I do best with routines and schedules.  I am not a spur of the moment girl at all.  Just this past week, our air conditioner decided to go kaput.  Just that little change threw me off for two days.  I had to be home because I didn't know exactly when the repairman would be coming by.  I had to have my phone with me and turned on at all times because I didn't know when the repairman would call.  And it was HOT inside of my house.  Too hot to do my usual housework routine.  Too hot to cook or run the dryer!  I had to change what I did around the house.  This was just a little teeny tiny bump in my daily life.  Big changes make me nervous.  Moving comes up every so often, and I just can't imagine me making that big of a life change.

Oh, I have been a huge Tori fan for many years....   I've seen her only twice in concert and got her autograph at a M&G in 2004.

She has a new album coming out!!  Here is a video of "Promise."  Natasha is in it!  Pure awesomeness.

I'm looking forward to Unrepentant Geraldines!!

Meeting Spencer Boldman

Last week Southland Mall advertised that Spencer Boldman was coming for a meet and greet!  I admit, I had no clue who he was, but my girls did!!  They wanted to go....

Veronica changed her mind the morning of, which with the way it went turned out to be a good thing!

It started at 12:30, so we arrived about 11:45 only to walk into organized chaos.  There was a small section roped off maze style to control the line, but the rest....   Well, there was tape on the floor showing where the lines were but no one paid much attention to it.  Val and I got in line where it seemed to end and waited and waited.  Right at noon, Spencer Boldman made his appearance and said a few words on a mic.  Then the autographs and pic frenzy began!!

We probably stood still in line for thirty minutes before we moved.  The only thing I can see is that many people were cutting in line.   There were a bunch of people off to the side, so somehow they were edging their way in to the queue.  After some time, mall security showed up to help with crowd control.  They started booting people out of line who cut and sending people to the end of the line.

After almost three hours, Valerie finally got to meet Spencer Boldman!!  I have nothing but nice things to say about him.  He was very kind, didn't rush and talked to each and every kid, took selfies, gave autographed pics, and was just so friendly.  He thanked us for waiting so long to meet him.  Valerie said it was 'totally worth standing in line.'  It sure was.

First Day

Last night about 5:30, Veronica decided she was ready to shower, brush her teeth, and get ready for bed.  All right, that was fine with me.  I have to help her shower because of the broken arm, but she did the rest on her own.

There she is ready for bed.  I'm sure you notice something funny about her night time attire.  Not only did she sleep in her uniform, but also she slept with her school bag and shoes next to her.  At 3am, I was awakened by, "Is it time yet?"  NO, go back to sleep for three more hours!!  "But I'm too excited to sleep!"  (what is this -- Christmas??? NO it's the first day of school!!)

At 5:45am, I hear footsteps coming close to my bed, then a whisper.  "Momma, it's almost 6...  I'm ready!"  And there stood Veronica, shoes on, backpack slung over her shoulders.

It took a little coaxing to get Valerie out of bed, but she was soon ready too.  I'm officially a Mom of a second and fourth grader!!!  It seems they were just tiny pre-schoolers, and now they are big kids.

A Fly by Summer

School is just days away.  Wasn't it just May with the endless summer before us?  Summer seemed to fly by faster than I ever imagined.  I always try to spend time with my girls and take them places because I know this time with my girls will eventually go away.  They will grow up and grow out of doing things with Mom.  We may not have accomplished everything on our to-do list, but I think I did a pretty good job of keeping my girls occupied.  Both of them just loved the free camp at the recreation center.  (I did too because it gave me a few hours each day to myself!!)  We did a lot of library activities, met friends for play dates, went to the Children's Museum, made several trips to Chuck E. Cheese, and went to the movies.  Veronica's broken arm put a damper on a few things. Mainly it put an end to going to the water park, swimming, and roller skating.

I'm always sad on these last few days of summer vacation.  I always wonder if I did enough and if they will even remember all of this stuff.  I hope they look back on their young summers and remember all the places we went and people we saw.  On the other hand, I do like the routine that school brings.   My house is a grand disaster.  It's not that I didn't clean all summer, but we all know kids are little mess makers.  I'm looking forward to getting back to my routine - mainly hitting the gym after the girls get on the bus!!

Countdown until I'm officially a mom of a fourth and second grader:  four days to go.

In Sarah McLachlan's Living Room

Oh how I love me some Sarah McLachlan!!! "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" is one of my all time favorite albums.  "Possession" is one of my all time favorite songs.  I actually met Clint partially because of that song.  I had recorded myself singing it and posted it online.  Clint ran across it through a friend of a friend and emailed me and mentioned making a better recording of it in his studio.  That was how our first conversation started.  (you can listen to it here!)

As soon as I heard Sarah McLachlan was coming to New Orleans August 1, there was no way I was going to miss it.  Tickets went on sale March 14, my Dad's birthday, and I scored the best orchestra seats Ticketmaster would let me pick.  I started following her tour information and learned about the Living Room contest.  On her webpage, it asked for you to tell how you Shine On.  I did.  Clint did, too, for good measure.  It was just last year we won Madonna's Golden Triangle tickets, so I didn't see it happening twice.

Thursday morning, I was getting ready to paint the dining room while listening to "Shine On."   This popped in:

Congratulations Melanie Galliano!

You are invited to join Sarah McLachlan on stage this Friday, August 1, in New Orleans! You and a guest will watch Sarah perform a few of her songs from the best seats in the house! Your special invitations will be waiting at Will Call for you the evening of the show with further details. You will spend part of the show in your purchased seat, so don't forget your tickets!

Please respond to this email by 5 pm EST, July 31, to accept this prize. Sorry for the urgency. Another winner did not respond in the allotted time frame and you were chosen in their place. We will also need confirmation that you have tickets to the selected show. To provide proof of purchase, please attach a picture of your tickets or forward the email confirmation if you bought them online. We look forward to hearing from you!

Congratulations once again and enjoy the show!

OMG for real???  I won.  I WON!!

Our plan was to leave very early to be sure we had enough time to claim my invitation at the box office and have a nice dinner somewhere in the Quarter with out having to rush.  Our wonderful sitter arrived to occupy the kids and we left at 4pm so we had plenty of time before the 8 o'clock show.

We were about 15 minutes away from home on the interstate and this happened:

It took Clint a while to figure out how to access the spare underneath the vehicle, then it was a slow drive back home to get Clint's truck.

Take Two #ShineonTour

We got to NOLA, parked in the closest parking lot next to the Saenger to the tune of $30, and walked over to the box office.  This was waiting for me:

A handwritten invitation!  It sure looks like her handwriting to me, so I'll just go with it.  We were short on time (see above,) so it was McDonald's, Chinese, or IHop for dinner.  IHop it was for a quick meal.  It wasn't exactly what we had in mind for our dinner in the Quarter, but we made it work.

The Saenger is just gorgeous!!!  This was the first time we had been there since it re-opened after Katrina.  It's the perfect venue since it isn't very big, but yet it's big enough.   We found our seats, donned our yellow wristbands, and waited for the show to begin.

Sarah took the stage a few minutes after 8:00 and she opened with one of her new songs, "Flesh and Blood."  She just has the most amazing voice!!

The setlist:
Flesh and Blood
Building a Mystery
In Your Shoes
Adia
Answer
Broken Heart
Fallen
World on Fire

Then it was TIME.  She asked the yellow wristbands (us) to meet on the sage left to be escorted to her Living Room.  She answered a few questions she pulled from a hat, then walked over to us.  "Hi, I'm Sarah," as she gave each of us a hug.  I had brought my Shine On CD for her to sign and I really wanted a picture with her!!  The girl next to me said she had a gift for her, a bracelet that someone in the audience had made.  Sarah put it on, said her thanks and turned to the rest of us and said:

"Does anyone else have any presents for me?"

*pause*

"OH I meant QUESTIONS!!!!  Questions!!!"

Sarah laughed, made a few jokes, and seemed genuinely embarrassed by her goof.  To my dismay, she quickly got up and went on with the show.  I had my Shine On CD booklet in my hand with a pen.... and she got up before I could ask her to sign it.  My husband tried to get her attention as she turned away but she didn't notice.  No pics or autographs for any of us sitting in her first set Living Room.  I'm still bummed.

The three songs we were in the Living Room for were:
Loving You is Easy
Monsters
Stupid

The band took a 20 minute break before coming back for a second set.  I have to say the second set was much better than the first.  Sarah McLachlan rocked the house!!!

The second setlist:
Song For My Father
I Will Remember You
Brink of Destruction
Hold On
Love Beside Me
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy
Witness
(blue wrist bands to the Living Room)
Fear
Sweet Surrender
Posession
____
Angel
Beautiful Girl
Ice Cream
____
The Sound that Love Makes

All in all, FABULOUS show!!!  Being invited to her Living Room on stage was the coolest experience.  I do wish she would have taken pics with us and signed my CD....  but that's life I guess.  If Sarah McLachlan comes our way again, it's a must do for me!!
