Ugh Ugh!

I know I shouldn't complain. It could always be worse. Always. There's always somebody else worse off than you. We found out this morning that Clint has to leave for Scotland again in three days. Not the eleven we were planning on. We were thinking we had all next week to to spend together and get things done. Not so. I know it's his job and he has no choice, but being by myself is really getting old. He JUST got home - not even a week ago. He's only been home for five days and has worked all day every one of those days. And now he's leaving again and will be away most of May. We spent no time together as a family. Valerie requested that Daddy pick her up from school just so she could have him to herself on the drive!! I was hoping for a little down time for myself next week also. Plus, he'll miss Valerie's pre-k graduation and the girls' dance recital. And I'll need to figure out babysitting for a few things I must attend with out the kids. *sigh* I know there's nothing I can do but stick it out, but I'm ready for all of this traveling to be over with!

Smiles I Heart Faces Photo Challenge!

This week's challenge over at I Heart Faces is all about smiles!! Here's my entry - Veronica smiling!

Mmmm cupcakes!

In lieu of going to the gym today, I decided to stay home and bake cupcakes with my girls. A little counterproductive I suppose. But oh well, it's not like I'm losing any weight anyway!! I haven't baked in a very long time in trying to cut out all sweets, and I still managed to gain weight. So why not bake anyway?! Besides, in five short weeks Valerie and Veronica will start summer camp, so I will have two whole days to myself for the first time in nearly six years. In August it jumps to three days a week.... so I guess if I want to spend three hours at the gym then I will. For now, I've been trying to come up with fun things to do with my girls while they are home with me. I want them to remember all the fun things Mom did when they were little. Plus, keeping them occupied keeps me sane as there are fewer meltdowns. I <3 being a stay at home mom, but it can be a little trying at times. I guiltily admit that I have a To Do list started for when they are in school!!

Anyway, back to the cupcakes! I used a super easy recipe from All I've made it before and it is a winner! It made 14 cupcakes for me.

1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x9 inch pan or line a muffin pan with paper liners.

In a medium bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine flour and baking powder, add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Finally stir in the milk until batter is smooth. Pour or spoon batter into the prepared pan.
Bake for 30 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven. For cupcakes, bake 20 to 25 minutes. Cake is done when it springs back to the touch.

We had a nice weekend!

Saturday morning was dance picture day!! I got the girls ready early as we had the second spot for pictures. Veronica cooperated much better than I thought she would. I hope the pictures come out better than last year's! After, I took Valerie and Veronica to Chuck E. Cheese to play with friends. Thankfully the place wasn't complete chaos! I have a TON of tokens left over from Valerie's birthday and we have yet to make a dent in my stash. To pacify the cries of distress when it was time to leave, we made a quick visit to the pet store - to look not buy! It was pet adoption day, so there were cats and dogs looking for homes. Some of the cats looked so sad and I wish we could take them home, but we have two too many cats as it is. After the pet store, I let them pick out a toy at The Dollar Tree (bouncy balls).

Then we came home and did housework, took early baths, and killed time until we headed to the airport. Val and Roni LOVE the airport. They get such a kick out of the glass elevator in the parking garage. Since we were early, I took them to the terminal this time. I was hoping to meet Clint at the gate instead of baggage where we usually meet him. I waited and waited and kept watching the monitors but his flight from Memphis never posted! Finally someone else who was waiting for the same flight told me her party was in baggage already, so we rushed down a level. And there was Clint, waiting for us!! YAY!! So glad he's home safe and sound. The kids were so excited to see him. Valerie went on and on talking non stop about how much she missed him. The people around us were giggling about it.

Sunday, I got up before everyone else and made biscuits for breakfast. The kids were up soon after, and once they remembered Daddy was home, they had to wake him up too. We hung out around the house, and after lunch we went to my friend Jennifer's daughter's dance recital. WOW, it was so awesome! Embarrassingly much better than the dance studio's that my girls go to. We left before it was over since the kids were getting restless. Grabbed and early dinner and headed home. We played outside with the kids until it was time to get ready for bed.

So, it was a nice family weekend. I'm SO glad Clint is finally home, even if it's only for a short while.

7 weeks

That's just about how long I've been on my own. Seven whole weeks. Clint was home in the middle of that briefly, but he was busy working (even though he was on vacation.) We barely saw him and he spent zero time with me or the kids. We did a lot of fighting about his 'investment.' And before we knew it, we were saying goodbye at the airport once again. I'm counting down the hours until he comes home tomorrow night. Although, in three days he'll be going to Houston. And a few days after that, he'll be back overseas. Again. He'll be away for Valerie's pre-k graduation and the girls' dance recital. AND yesterday he broke the news it looks like he'll be away most of June also.

I guess I should be glad Clint has a job and that he is coming home at all.
I'm just so tired of being by myself! Well, of course the kids are here, but you know what I mean.

~ Haven't been in much of a blogging mood. Too tired mostly. Nothing interesting to say.

~ Alone. Seems like I have been alone forever and there's no end in sight.

~ It's exhausting. I really need a break.

~ I've been feeling kind of sad. And alone.

~ Clint is finally coming home this weekend after being stranded in the UK. But we'll only see him for a few days and he has to go right back.

~ Kids are doing great!

~ Although Veronica still cries way too much.

~ Valerie is registered for kindergarten (yikes!) Veronica is registered for 3 year old pre-k. Both girls are signed up for summer camp two days a week.

~ Valerie's Nanny brought over some Easter gifts and Veronica just FREAKED out. I don't think I have ever seen her so excited to see someone!

~ Their dance recital is right around the corner - looking forward to it. Hope Clint is back by then.

~ Looks like he's going to miss Valerie's pre-k graduation though. Sucks.

~ I've been trying to keep the girls busy with fun things: swimming at the Y, shopping, visits with my Dad, playdates... they get so bored and ask for Daddy all the time.

~ I want to buy a pool. a nice one.

~ I am so ready for Clint to come home.

~ I am NOT ready for him to leave again.

~ My "new" routine at the gym is: 60 mins of cardio every day for a week. 30 mins of cardio plus weights the next week. Repeat. Avoiding the scale for now....

~ How dumb is it that I have shorts and jeans size 10-12, yet the size 8 shorts I bought yesterday are too big. A 6? come on.

~ I hate people who go on and on about themselves and never listen to what you have to say.

~ Most of this makes no sense.

~ Sometimes I just don't care. About anything.

~ Again, I'm tired.

Where's the tooth fairy?

I hate the dentist.

Sure, I can handle going twice a year for a cleaning and check-up. It's usually painless and over with in thirty minutes or less. It's any other kinds of dental work that sends me crying to the bathroom.

It looks like one of my worst nightmares may come true. Literally.

When I was very young, probably around the age of 8, I had a silver crown put on a baby tooth. Well I grew up and no permanent tooth ever came in to take it's place. I was told eventually it would fall out on it's own and I'd need to have a bridge put in. Oh, many nights I have awaken panic stricken after having it "fall out" in some highly public place! I'm always in the middle of something important and -pop- out falls The Tooth leaving me with an embarrassing bloody gap. Many nights I have breathed a sigh of relief that it was just a dream!!

But yes, here I am, 37 years old, and that silver baby tooth is still hanging in there. I've toyed with the idea of getting it 'fixed' for cosmetic reasons. When I smile big, there's always that silver bling in the corner. The tooth has no roots left and it's just wedged in there. At every appointment the dental techs are amazed that it hasn't fallen out. It's not loose at all and I have never had any issues with it until now.

Pain. Ow! Not really the tooth itself, but all around it. It's not constant, but it feels off. It hurts when I eat or drink. My gums are not red, but I do think it is slightly swollen. I even feel a little pressure up towards my cheek. Yesterday I had fever. My self diagnosis is an abscess. In a normal case, to save the tooth there is always a root canal. Since this is not a viable tooth, if it IS an abscess, most likely the solution will be to extract it. My absolute worst nightmare!! It's stupid, but I can't stop crying about it. The thought of having a missing tooth brings me to tears. So does getting the two surrounding teeth filed down to fit a bridge. And the thought of putting a huge screw in my jaw for an implant.... *shudder*

I'm secretly wishing that I'll wake up tomorrow and it will be all better. Not likely, I know. As long as I can find the courage, I guess I will be calling my dentist's office first thing in the morning. Wish me luck.

So, to update on my previous gripe post... Clint talked to his relatives partners and told a white lie. He told them the bank was closing the credit card, so the balance had to be paid by April 15. No arguments whatsoever. So I'm guessing it will be taken care of and paid in full. But seriously - how sad is it that he has to outright lie to persuade them to pay their share?? Clint said he did that because he didn't feel like getting into a discussion at that time. (He is overseas working and they called him in the middle of the night forgetting once again about the time difference.)

So we shall see.

I really hate how some people pretend to care and fake interest to look good. Stop commenting on Clint's FB status already!! You know who you are. We know you're just putting on a show so give up the charade. You haven't seen us in over a year by no fault but your own. And pretending to be interested in my child's birthday so that no one would think you had forgotten? Um seriously we're supposed to buy that? Anyway, it was a month ago and you have yet to acknowledge her in any way. Not that she even knows who you are - again, no fault but your own. I doubt you have the guts to show up here with a gift, but it doesn't take much effort to drop a card in the mail. Plus, no response from you when Clint steps up and mentions getting together so the kids can play. If you can't put aside whatever you're pissy about for the kids' sake, that's sad and childish. They certainly didn't do you any thing, but then again neither did we. I really wish Clint would stop faking nice and tell you like it is, and ask you WTF happened for you to black list us, but he is inclined to play along and keep giving you chances to redeem yourself. Whatever. I'm done. Can't wait to see what turns up on your FB playground next....unless one of your friend audits comes around again and we're cut. Ha.Ha.

Happy Easter!

Somehow, I have gained eight pounds in the last few weeks. I have no idea where it came from because I have done nothing different. If anything, I'm eating less junk because I haven't baked much at all during lent. I'm still doing 25-30 minutes of cardio at least three days a week, but usually four days. I didn't go to the gym at all this week because of Veronica being sick and doctor's appointments. I'm still trying to lose the 10 lbs of baby weight that won't go away. (it's been 3 years) Now it's up to 18 lbs?? Makes no sense to exercise that much and still gain weight.

I guess I will start over Monday and try, try again.

Here we go again

Last Sunday, Veronica didn't want to eat and chose to lay on the couch instead of enjoying the beautiful day. I knew something was up. By bedtime, she had a slight fever. She slept for about two hours in her bed, and was awake crying, 102 fever, had chills, and vomited. She cried that everything was "yucky" and "dirty." We moved her to the living room couch and she went on a good thirty minutes about seeing "the black" and "the mud" and everything was "yucky." Eventually she went back to sleep and woke up several times during the night to tell us she was sleeping with her eyes open. (?) At six when my alarm went off, she was up again - "Daddy, bug on you." Then on to say there were bugs all over her. Hallucinating? Sleep walking? Dreaming? Who knows.... but it was freaky and had me worried.

Off to the doctor we went...

And she has the flu.

The Flu is in my household AGAIN!!

This makes the fourth time. Valerie had it. Veronica had it. Valerie had it again. Now Veronica - again.

So far, no one else has shown signs of getting sick. I hope it stays that way.
