So I've been looking around online for suggestions and ideas on what to do with our flowerbeds. I posted on a gardening forum and put pictures of my house hoping that somebody would take pity on poor me and say this is exactly what to plant!!

I did get a few great suggestions and I think I know what we are doing now.

But anyway...

The general consensus was that my home is nice, but too "busy," and I'd be better off ditching the landscaping and planting grass. Busy as in having brick, stucco, and siding (?) so plants would take away from the overall appearance. My house looks "fine" though. All we need is grass. The only reason to plant anything in front of a house is to hide the house because it needs to be hidden.

Huh? Really?? Um, that's news to me!

I don't know where these people live, but down here I see gorgeous mansions with lavish yards. Professionally landscaped and maintained... and it doesn't take away from the beauty of the home at all.

I don't want to 'hide' my home. I'd like to give it some curb appeal.

  1. I wouldn't call it busy. I would call it character ... I love your house. Those folks are "different" to say the least!!
