Sweet Wheels

Veronica, being the second child, is cursed with the forever hand-me-downs. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I have no issues thrift store shopping and accepting bags of clothes from friends! Of course it's not that Veronica never gets anything brand new. And still, most of the things passed on to her are still in great condition and are 'new' to her. Roni is actually happy when Val's favorite dresses are now hers!

When Veronica does get something new before her big sister, it is a big deal.

Valerie's bicycle belonged to our neighbor's daughter. When they moved, they gave it to us. There's not a thing wrong with it. Val has about out grown it, so I've already decided she is getting her first new bike for her birthday. I was actually planning to shine up the old one, buy a basket, etc. and pass it on to Veronica for Christmas.

Tuesday, I was gone all day and got home too late to start cooking, so we decided to go out to dinner. Tuesday's are Kid's Night at Golden Corral. Not my favorite place, but the girls enjoy the balloons and face painting. All summer long, they are giving away a bicycle every Tuesday, too.

Guess who won the bike? Veronica!!

She was SO excited!!! Her first brand new bicycle!! I thought at first it was going to be too small. We requested a 12" bike thinking it was the same size Val had. Apparently Val's is a 14" though. Roni pedals away on it and seems comfortable. I think it will be a good learning bike and she can still have Val's old one when she out grows it. Can't beat a free bike no matter what!!

This Moment...a Friday ritual

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. See Soulemama to play along.

(certain somebodies decided to put on make up. with markers.)

Wordless Wednesday ~ Periwinkle

(My name of Snickers/Snickie was out voted. Periwinkle it is.)

I thought about writing something meaningful today. I couldn't really come up with anything though.

I did make it to the cemetery to bring flowers. Valerie gave each daisy a big kiss so that MeMe would get a lot of her love. My heart hurts.

Here's a somewhat happy post from a few years back.

She would have been 77 today.

Happy Birthday, Mom.

Those Blue Eyes

So, I lied.

And I admit, I'm a sucker. A sucker for a cute face and clear blue eyes. And the horror that it was going to be drowned for no other reason than just being.

Meet Snickie**. Or at least I THINK that was what we are going to call him. Snickers** maybe? Hm.

I know, I know. I said NO MORE CATS and I meant NO MORE CATS!!! But then I saw this part Siamese 8 week old kitten. My friend saved him, along with 2 others from being put in a sack and thrown in the river. And I thought about it. And thought about it. And thought. And remembered my Mom had two Siamese cats and they were great pets who lived to be 19 years old. Days went by, and I was still thinking about this kitten. Valerie and Veronica have never had a pet, had never even seen a kitten up close or held one. SassyCat is nine years old and isn't interested in playing much. So, I decided we would do it so the girls would have a pet to grow up with and love. Yesterday we drove to my friend's house, and I surprised them by coming home with a kitten of their very own.

Isn't he pretty?

So far, Snickie** has been a big hit with the girls. Veronica especially has taken to him. He's full of mischief and kitty cuteness. There's been lots of giggling as he leaps and pounces on everything that moves. Snickie follows me all over and 'talks' constantly. I had forgotten what it is like to have a kitten in the house - as I sit here typing with a two pound fur ball draped across the back of my neck!!

SassyCat doesn't care for him much. The few times she has been brave enough to venture out from under our bed she grumbled at him. She'll adjust, and by winter I'm willing to bet they will be cuddled together to stay warm.

I really mean it this time. NO more cats. NO more kittens. Really.

*** ETA: Snicke/Snickers was outvoted. He's officially Periwinkle!! ***

Eat Mor Chikin

Today was Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-Fil-A! If you wore a cow costume, you got a free meal. I printed out cow masks and we glued cow spots on white garbage bags. It was a practically free and very easy costume! We each received a free meal and we won free desserts, too. I love Chick Fil A! They always have such fun, inexpensive, family oriented events.

How do we look?

Independence Day!!

Once again we hosted another successful 4th of July party!! For those who don't know, we have had a 4th of July party almost every year since we moved in our house. It's sort of our annual mid year party for the kids, and us too. Yesterday was lots of food, new friends, old friends, adult beverages, laughs, and fireworks in the driveway after dark... a good time was had by all. Thanks to all who shared the day with us!! (and thanks to those who took the time to RSVP as well!!)

This year we lucked out and got an accidental deal on a slip-n-slide rental. I was on the fence about renting it, but in the end, I decided to go for it. We were given three days for the price of one, only because the owner did not want to work on a holiday (don't blame him!) A day early delivery and a day late pick up at no charge - no problem! (it's actually still here as I type this) The kids had a blast!! I got on it a few times myself, as did Clint.

And .... a shout out to my fellow blogger and neighbor who came by! I stumbled upon Richard's blog by accident a while back. As luck would have it, he lives only blocks away. He's a great story teller. Thanks for coming over!

Today we picked up and cleaned up, which wasn't much at all. Got the house and yard back in order. Thankfully the pool stayed fairly clean this time. After last year's party, there was an inch of mud at the bottom - ick. Tomorrow it's back to our regularly scheduled routine!

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July holiday!

11 years and counting

Way back on July 3, 2000, Clint and I met face to face for the first time. I guess you could say it was our first "date," but not really a date.

Our paths had first crossed online a year earlier. We both had webpages at the time and signed each other's guestbooks. It didn't go farther than a few "Hi, nice to meet you. I see you know so-and-so, me too" emails.

At the end of May 2000, our paths crossed online once again. Only this time, we went from emailing to chatting on ICQ.

On July 3, Clint asked me to meet him at Pepper's Pizza in Thibodaux. I gave it a few minutes, and decided to go. Although I was curious about my internet friend, I had zero expectations and was just going to get out of the house. We had dinner, had a few drinks, and went to Houma to see the Chee-Weez. It was a fun night but I admit there were no fireworks that night. I just thought Clint was "ok."

Little did I know...... and my how quickly things changed!!!
