Our Thanksgiving was nice and quiet.  We ordered a dinner from Copeland's because neither of us wanted to spend hours cooking for four people.  And my picky eaters most likely would have not eaten much of it anyway!  The only cooking I did was mac-n-cheese for them.  I did some baking of course.  My girls requested all kinds of pies!!  I managed to narrow it down to three - pecan, chocolate, and a cheesecake.   No pics of them as they are all gone.

Dinner to go!

Cajun battered and fried turkey - best turkey ever. And I don't like turkey.

Dinner is served

Later that day we packed up the girls and brought them to a friend's house.  Time to go "pay" Santa!!  I hadn't done the Black Friday thing in years.  I've only been once since Val was born.  With Wal-mart starting their sale at 8pm on Thanksgiving made it so much easier.  No getting up at 3am or camping out for hours.  Clint and I were both able to go and we had a plan.  We were at the store a little after 6 and waited.  At 8 everybody kinda went a little crazy ripping open pallets and tossing boxes in the air.  By 8:40 we were walking out the door with everything that I wanted in hand!  It wasn't bad, but that was enough chaos for me.  The rest of my shopping has and will be done online.  :-)

Did you brave the Black Friday sales?  Do tell!

Tomorrow is the day we all give thanks and gather around the table for a feast.  I'll be spending a quiet Thanksgiving with my little family of four.  And that is okay.  Veronica has asked a few times about having guests over.  Even a five year old knows that many people spend holidays visiting and gathering together to celebrate with their family.  I think it is just hard for her to grasp that this IS her family.  To all of you - spend time with your loved ones on this holiday and don't assume you can do it later for later may never come.

Being thankful for family and friends is a given.  I'm so glad to be a Mom to my girls.  I'm thankful to have a husband who works hard to provide for us and strives to do better.  I'm thankful for the few good friends I have.  I'm thankful that we have more than enough.  I'm thankful for our home, even with it's flaws, it is ours one-hundred percent. As we sit at our small table set for four tomorrow, I will be glad that we are all together.  My husband is home and not working offshore or overseas.  My girls are happy and healthy.  I have a happy family.  For that, I am most thankful of all.

I can't believe it's November.  Already.  The year seems to have passed me by. Soon Thanksgiving will be here.  Val's birthday.  And Christmas.  Then 2013.  The girls are already all about Christmas!!   They're itching to get the decorations down from the attic and have already started singing Christmas songs.  I can only hope that some of their enthusiasm will rub off on me.   The holidays have been hard the past few years.  But I'm trying hard to be excited about the holidays this year.  It is what it is.  Our family dynamics have forever changed and I need to just make our own traditions.  And I hate feeling my girls may have missed out on a few years of magic because Mommy is in a slump.  They are the perfect ages now and who knows how much longer we'll be able to keep up the Santa facade.  So I want to revel in these tiny moments.  I don't want to miss anything.  I want to feel their excitement.  Make memories to last a life time - mine and theirs.  I want to make happy holidays.

And I will because it's all for them.  And no one else.  For my girls.

Proud Mommy Moment!!

October started out with Valerie receiving Student of the Month!!   Very proud of my girl for always doing so well in school.

This month, guess what??

It's Veronica's turn!!!  O.M.G.  Knowing this child and how far she has come, THIS is an accomplishment.  Not that she is 'bad' by any means, but Roni has a mind of her own and has her own ideas how things should be.  So when her teacher sent home a letter stating she had picked Veronica as Student of the Month, I was ecstatic!!!!

THEN....  I got a call from their French teacher.  He also picks one student out of all his students each month for the award.

He picked Valerie.

Both of my girls received Student of the Month awards today.  I can't express how proud of them I am!!     Love those girls so much.

This is Halloween!

Halloween was fun!  We had a small group of friends over for food and snacks, then we walked the neighborhood as a group.  It was fairly quiet around here this year with more dark houses than usual.  Three and four houses in a row not giving out candy, when normally most everyone does.  Even the ToT crowd seemed less.  The kids didn't seem to mind and they don't really need all that candy anyway.  They still got plenty!

Hope everyone had a fun and Happy Halloween!!

Clint's pumpkins.. aren't they cool??
