Little big girl

I still think about the year that Valerie was two, almost three, and went on and on about how much she loved her 'wainbow cwismiss twee."  She had spent a few days at my Mom's house, and while she was gone we decked the house inside and out in Christmas stuff to surprise her.   Val ooohed and ahhhed and kept saying "pretty wainbow lights. I love my wainbow Cwismiss twee, Mommy!"  It's one of the sweetest memories I have of my little girl.

It seems I blinked or something because this is now my little girl:

.... or not so little girl.

My dear Valerie is eleven today.  It's so bitter sweet. I am excited for her future and can't wait to see her become a lovely young woman.  At the same time, I wish for her to stay my sweet little girl as long as possible.  The world isn't always kind and this Momma wishes she could keep my little girl safe in my arms.  I want so much for her..  happiness, love, success.....     Every year she ages, I know I must let go a little bit more so she can learn a little about independence.  I don't want to be one of those moms who shelters her kids so much the real world is a shock.  Every year, she will need me less and less....   I know that has been the plan all along, but it's still a bitter pill to swallow.

Happy 11th Birthday my dear Val Gal!!!  Momma loves you always....
