The instant craze

I know I'm late to the game!  But I'm not one to just go out a buy something because it's the new fad kitchen gadget.

I eyed these for two weeks.  Two weeks!!  Then I found myself wandering around Wal-mart thinking about them and texted Clint that they were marked down.  He said get it.  I wasn't sure how much or how often I'd use it. I mulled around a bit then decided why not?  I figured it might come in handy. I finally joined the cult and bought an Instant Pot.

I've only used it a few times and I'm still on the fence.  It's 'okay.'  I made some honey chicken that was pretty good.  I cooked a perfect beef roast in about an hour.  I made white beans, which took a little longer than the hour stated in the recipe I followed ....  but it was much faster than on the stove.

I joined some Facebook groups for recipe ideas.  So many of them have pasta or rice, and we rarely eat them anymore since we follow somewhat of a lazy low carb diet.  I joined some low-carb recipe groups as well but so far nothing has seemed too appealing or it seems easier to just cook on the stove/oven.  I think I will try cooking a whole chicken next.

It still seems like a glorified crock-pot, and I hardly ever use my crock-pot.

Do you have an Instant Pot?  What are some of your favorite dishes to make in it?

  2. Nel has a crock pot, and she loves it. In fact, she made jambalaya for the baby's birthday cause the Disney movie takes place in Louisiana. I'm not one to go along with the latest fads either, but I think you will really like your new crock pot and find good uses for it.

  3. Hi Mellie, Happy Birthday week to you!!! How ironic that you are making the cake my mom used to bake! I don't have an instant pot. I must have been the last person on earth to buy a crock pot! I hope you will receive some recipe suggestions from blog friends or fb groups that you can try and enjoy.

  4. I go back and forth about getting an Instant Pot. Another blog I follow got one a few months back and shares a lot of recipes she makes in it and it all sounds wonderful but then I'm just not sure. I like the crock pot because you can just dump stuff in it and it all gets cooked. With some Instant Pot recipes you have to do some pre=preparing and I don't know how much I want to do with that. So the jury is still out here. I have a small kitchen too with not a lot of counter space so not sure where it would go and although the pantry is a good size it is packed to the gills with things. Good luck with yours!
