Hello, December.

I can't believe it's December again already.  It sure doesn't seem like the end of another year is around the corner, but here it is.  This whole month is jam packed with back-to-back activities, so I know it will pass me by.  Hopefully we can squeeze in some fun before Christmas catches up to us.

What better way to kick off the Christmas month than with a viewing of The Nutcracker??  Neither Valerie nor Veronica had ever seen a real ballet.  Seeing a professional ballet was a first for me, too.  I vaguely remember my Mom taking me to a local production of The Nutcracker.  It was very, very small.  I was small too and I had to peek between black shadows of heads to see anything on the stage.  My Mom and I saw it again - on ice - sometime in the 90s.  That particular production was just terrible!!!

Today we had a lovely afternoon watching a professional production of The Nutcracker by New Orleans Ballet Theater and it was fantastic!  We loved it!! Such talented dancers and wonderful choreography.  And even better - it was local.  We didn't have to trek to "The City" or worry about traffic or parking.  It was at the civic center just 15 minutes from home.  The civic center is on the small side and there isn't a bad seat in the house.

Today also kicks off another December tradition -- Hi again Holidailies!

  1. Looked like a nice production! I saw The Nutcracker years ago through the San Diego Ballet Company. Enchanting! I too can't believe it is December!

  3. Davis has a Children's Nutcracker, which, now, casts 200 local children to loosely tell the story. It's a tradition over 30 years old. Our kids were in the first few years of performance, then went on to be directors and technicians. My son worked on the production into his 40s.

  4. Sounds like a fun outing! I was in the Nutcracker for several years as a kid ... not a professional production though our ballet school was quite large and well established so I think it was pretty well done.
