Monday, Monday....

It was a busy weekend!

Friday night, Veronica attended the Winter Formal dance at her school.

She thinks school dances are lame, but she said she had a good time.

Saturday morning, Valerie and I were up early to for District Honor Band auditions.  She was pretty nervous, as you can imagine.  It takes guts to go play your clarinet solo for someone and be judged for it!   She did great though with just a few minor mistakes.  I knew she had a spot, so it was just a matter of waiting to find out what chair.

After that, we met up with friends for lunch, then we had to buy battery powered lights and decorations for the Christmas parade. This was Val's very first time marching in a parade.  Next up will be the big Mardi Gras parades, so this was just a warm up!!  It was about two hours long.  She said it was lots of fun though and it went by really fast.

Side note - I'm guessing Louisiana is the only place where candy, toys, and (yes) beads are tossed from floats at a Christmas parade?   There's no such thing as a parade that is just watched down here.  There are always throws.  I was only there to watch the band and somehow ended up with a bag full of candy and small toys.  I even caught a red and green Christmas whisk!

After the parade we grabbed a late dinner and began stalking the district's website for honor band results.  Reload... reload...reload...   Nothing.  I gave up around midnight and went to sleep.  Sunday morning - still nothing.  About 9am... finally!!

YES!  Third chair.  Of course Valerie was hoping for first, but third out of the 60 or so clarinets that auditioned isn't bad at all.  AND since she made district honor band, she'll automatically be in parish honor band AND the two people above her are not part of that so she should be FIRST chair clarinet for parish honor band!!

That's my girl, y'all!!

January will be interesting -  district and parish honor band for Val and district and parish honor choir for Veronica, with multiple rehearsals and then concerts in completely opposite directions!!

  1. We don't have a Christmas parade, but Santa does come around on the fire truck on Christmas Eve and throw candy at kids.

    Congrats to Valerie!

  3. Congrats to your daughter on 3rd chair! Great work! Good too that your other daughter went to the winter formal. It is good to go to have the experience and the fun :)

When we lived in Billings and went to parades, people would throw from floats candy and necklaces for the Christmas parade. Always good fun to see the kids scrambling for them!
