My favorite things - the ginger bread dolls

Before the kids, I actually had an office job.  I worked for eleven years at an oilfield supply boat company.  Imagine that!  Now it seems like a lifetime ago.   I worked until the week before Valerie was born and I couldn't take it anymore, so I asked my doctor for a note to start maternity leave.  She happily obliged.  It just so happens that my last day was also the office ladies' Christmas luncheon.  We would each bring a $20 gift and pull numbers to swap.

Anyway, here I was nine months pregnant and somehow I pulled the number that matched the biggest box that was there.  Lo and behold -- look what was inside!!!   Gingerbread dolls with the year on them - the year Valerie was born.  How perfect was that??  They both smelled like cinnamon and still do.

The girls have taken pictures with them, played with them, and fought over them through the years.

I never imagined they would love them so much.  I only wish I had thought to look for something similar the year Veronica was born so that we'd have a 2007 set too.
