Happy Spring Break!

Well there I go NOT blogging again!!  And I'm way behind with all of you.  I will catch up eventually.

We took a little drive of 1,440 miles (round trip) for Easter week/Spring Break and visited Pigeon Forge, TN.  That is the farthest  north I have ever been and yet it's still considered the south.  We've wanted to visit the Smoky Mountains for years but just never followed through with it.  When one of the band moms invited us to go, we knew it was time.  We traveled with 2 other families making us a total 6 adults and 7 kids!

We had lots of fun eating, shopping, and visiting local tourist traps.  I say traps but the entire area seems like a giant tourist trap!!   It seemed like block after block of junk stores, moonshine, museums, and really tourist-ty places.  We visited the Alcatraz Museum, Bird Mountain, The Island, The Gatlinburg strip, bought moonshine, visited Dollywood, The Apple Barn, mountain coasters, and Paula Deen's Lumberjack Feud show.  Dollywood was the favorite and I would like to go back and spend a little more time there.

One thing I learned is that I do not like driving on mountain roads.  Well, Clint drove but you know what I mean.  At one point on our way to Gatlinburg, we were so high up that we were almost looking down on the Skybridge and lift.  Curves, drops, hairpin turns, steep inclines.... scared me to death.   Take me back to the swamp and flat ground!!

Maybe for Thanksgiving we'll go back and maybe we'd see some snow!

  1. How cool you traveled with friends! That sounded like a lot of fun and I'm sure the kids enjoyed that! Looked all fun with a lot of great activities to do! I'm with you about mountain roads. NEVER drive the Pikes Peak Highway in Colorado. At the top you are at about 14,000 feet elevation. The road starts off paved but then turns to dirt halfway or so up it (at least the last time we drove it about 20 years ago). It is scary!! And they do racing on it!!

Glad to see you guys traveled and weren't afraid to go out and have fun during this pandemic time!!!

  2. That trip looks like a blast, it IS nice to see people still going out and having fun. I've never been down to your neck of the woods, it's funny to me that you've only been as far north as Tennessee, as I consider that REALLY SOUTH, ha. Here in NY state (central, rural NY), spring is doing it's usual: a warm summery day, followed by cold and rain, dilly dallying it's way to summer...we're missing the snowstorm that some of the state is getting, but it's chilly here.

  3. The mountain roads are not for the faint of heart!
I'm so happy you guys were able to get away and enjoy yourselves.
    I can't believe that is the NORTH-EST you've been.

  4. Hi there! New reader! I came over from Winslow's Corner of Arizona. I've been to Tennessee many times but never Pidgeon Forge or Gatlinburg. It's on my list to see those places! Also never been anywhere in Louisiana so for sure plan a visit there one day! Looks like you had a great time! We drove through the mountains quite a few times. Harrowing, but I loved it! My husband, not so much!

  5. Sounds like a lot of fun!

It's encouraging to see people still going out and having a good time.

  6. It looks like you had a wonderful trip! Have a great weekend Mellie!
